Biotech website design for three readers who share no vocabulary.

A biotech site is read by an investor sizing the market, a pharma partner assessing the platform, and a scientist checking whether the mechanism is real. Write for one and you lose the other two. Norml designs and builds the architecture that lets all three find what they came for — we have done it for a genomics company and inside a pharmaceutical one.

The science got simplified until it stopped being convincing.

  • A marketing agency rewrote the platform page for clarity and removed the exact detail a partner was checking for.

  • The pipeline is a static image that goes out of date the day a programme advances, and updating it means opening a design file.

  • Publications are a list of links, so the evidence that took a decade to produce does nothing for the site.

  • Investors, partners and scientists all land on the same page, and it is pitched at whichever of them the last redesign had in mind.

  • Every page change waits on scientific review, and because review is not part of the process, nothing ever ships.

What our biotech web design services include.

Seven things, in the order we do them. Website design for biotech companies is mostly a translation problem: keeping the science exact while making it navigable by people who are not in the lab.

A page per audience, not a page per department

Investors, partners, scientists and candidates want different evidence about the same platform. Which pages exist, who each one is for, and where they cross. This is the decision the rest of the site inherits.

The science, explained without being diluted

Written so a generalist can follow the mechanism and a specialist can see it is stated correctly, with the precise version always one click away rather than removed. Your scientists stay the authority on every claim — we design the page so their review is part of shipping it.

Pipeline and platform as structured data

Programmes, stages, indications and modalities stored as records rather than drawn as a picture, so advancing a programme is an edit and the pipeline can be shown differently on different pages without being redrawn.

Publications and data that work for you

Papers, posters and datasets structured and linked to the programme they support, so the evidence appears wherever that programme is discussed. This is the same information-architecture discipline we applied at InheriNext, where genomic complexity had to stay intact while becoming navigable.

Design system in Figma

Components, states and responsive rules, including the scientific figures, so the tenth programme page looks like the first and a new publication does not need a designer.

A build your team can update

Structured so a scientific affairs lead can add a publication or advance a programme without a developer. AstraZeneca is the extreme version of this problem — we built a scalable internal marketing platform there precisely so content could be produced at pace without engineering in the loop.

Analytics and search

Search Console, analytics and conversion tracking configured at launch, so you can see which audience the site actually reaches, plus the technical SEO to earn the traffic.

Biotech website design deliverables.

The scope follows the number of programmes and audiences. A typical engagement hands over the following:

  1. 01

A page map covering every URL, the audience it serves, and what it has to prove.

  2. 02

A structured pipeline and publication model — the fields each record carries.

  3. 03

A Figma design system with components, states, responsive rules and figure styles.

  4. 04

Platform, programme, publication, team and careers page templates.

  5. 05

A scientific review step built into the publishing workflow, not bolted on.

  6. 06

A build your scientific and communications team edits without a developer.

  7. 07

Analytics and Search Console configured from day one.

  8. 08

A handover session and every account and file in your name.

Our process

How the work runs.

Discovery

We read the analytics and talk to whoever fields partner and investor questions, because the questions they repeat are the pages the site is missing.

[ 01 ]

Architecture

Audience map, pipeline data model and URL plan, agreed in writing before anything is designed.

[ 02 ]

Design

Wireframes first, then the system in Figma. Platform, programme and publication templates, including how figures are treated.

[ 03 ]

Build

The site and the publishing workflow behind it, with scientific review as a step rather than an interruption.

[ 04 ]

Launch and handover

Redirects, analytics, Search Console, speed, then the files and the session that make you independent.

Biotech web design questions.

Have you worked with life-science companies?
Yes, and both are published rather than described. InheriNext is a genomics and bioinformatics company where the work was branding, website and the information architecture that kept genomic complexity intact while making it navigable. AstraZeneca is pharmaceutical, where we built a scalable internal marketing platform. We are not a life-science specialist agency and will not present ourselves as one — but the two hardest parts of this sector, exact science and scale, are both in the portfolio.
Who writes the science?
You do, or we draft and your scientists own it — never the other way round. We are a design and engineering studio, not scientific writers, and a studio that edits a mechanism for readability without review is how a claim ends up wrong. What we bring is structure: what each page has to establish, in what order, and where the precise version lives so it is available without being in the way.
What about regulatory and promotional compliance?
Your regulatory and medical affairs teams are the authority, always. We design so that review is possible and repeatable: claims as reviewable components rather than prose scattered across the site, a workflow where approval happens before publish, and an audit trail of what changed. Rules differ by jurisdiction and stage, which is a reason for your own reviewers to read the copy, not a reason for a vendor to guess.
Our pipeline changes. Will the site go stale?
Not if the pipeline is data rather than a graphic. Programmes, stages and indications live as structured records, so advancing one is an edit in an interface and the change appears everywhere that programme is referenced. Most biotech sites go stale because the pipeline was drawn in a design file, which means every update needs a designer.
We are pre-clinical with no revenue. Is this too early?
Often it is exactly the right time, because the site is doing fundraising and partnering work rather than selling. What changes is scope: a seed-stage company needs a sharp platform story, a credible team page and a pipeline that can grow, not thirty pages. Biotech web design for startups is mostly about building something that will not need replacing at Series B.
Do you work with pharma as well as biotech?
Yes. The AstraZeneca engagement is pharma, and pharma website design shares the core problem — exact claims, multiple audiences, review as part of publishing — with a heavier compliance layer and usually more internal stakeholders. The method holds; the governance around it gets stricter.
How much does biotech website design cost?
Norml publishes its rates on Clutch — $50–$99 per hour with a $5,000 project minimum. A full engagement covering audience architecture, the pipeline model, design system and build sits well above that minimum. We scope after discovery, because the page count follows the programmes and the audiences.
What happens after launch?
Your team runs it — the handover includes the files, the design system and a working session, and the publishing workflow is built for scientific affairs rather than for developers. When a company would rather not, Norml Care covers updates and monitoring monthly.
Website 2.0 combines strategy, design, development and launch in one engagement, with scientific review built into the process rather than bolted on at the end.
