Custom Claude skills for business workflows

Your team has a repeatable way to review a document, prepare a report or draft a response. We package that procedure as a Claude skill, with the instructions and source material needed to perform it consistently. The work starts with your accepted process and examples of a useful result.

A repeatable procedure your team can use

Each skill owns one defined job. Its instructions explain when to run, what to read, which steps to follow and when to stop for a person’s decision.

Solution
Automations
Tools
Claude
Trigger
A teammate requests the defined task in a supported Claude product, supplying the required inputs and approved source material.
Outcome
Claude produces the agreed draft or analysis with missing inputs and review needs identified. The process owner approves the output. Saving to business systems, sending messages and publishing remain separately configured actions.

Capture the operating procedure

Turn the approved workflow into ordered instructions, required inputs and an output format. Include exceptions such as missing information or conflicting source material so the skill has more than an example of the happy path.

Package context and examples

Organize the skill’s instructions, reference material and any necessary scripts. Keep credentials outside the package. Examples demonstrate the expected result without becoming fabricated facts in a future customer document.

Test and version the skill

Run representative cases in the intended Claude product. Compare outputs against the acceptance checklist, record revisions and provide a maintained version with an owner who can update the underlying procedure.

What we need before building

An approved way of working

Provide the procedure, current templates and examples the team considers correct. A skill can encode those decisions; missing policy, prices or approval authority must be resolved by the process owner.

The intended Claude product

Name Claude Code, claude.ai or an API-based application. Skill availability, installation, sharing and runtime capabilities differ. A package tested in one surface is not assumed to work unchanged in another.

Output and review boundaries

Specify where the draft belongs, who checks it and which actions require confirmation. Connected tools need separate access. Installing instructions does not authorize sending emails or changing business records.

How we build and test it

  1. Observe the task and define acceptance

Work through a typical input and expected output. Record the decisions that need human judgment and the information the skill must never invent.

  2. Build and test the package

Write the instructions and references, then test complete, incomplete and conflicting inputs. Review any scripts and external dependencies before they become part of the skill.

  3. Install and hand over

Verify the skill in the agreed runtime and document how teammates obtain updates. Deliver its source, examples and change process so the procedure remains maintainable.

Questions about this implementation

How is a skill different from a saved prompt?
A skill packages a reusable procedure with a description of when it applies, supporting material and, where appropriate, scripts. It can carry more operating context than a single pasted instruction. Its quality still depends on the procedure and testing.
Does a Claude skill connect our CRM or Google Drive?
Tool access is separate. The skill can describe how to use an approved connection, but that connection needs its own authentication, permissions and availability checks. We identify those dependencies while defining the workflow.
Will the same skill work in every Claude product?
Not automatically. Claude Code uses filesystem-based skills; other surfaces have their own upload and sharing behavior. Network access and runtime support also vary. The delivery scope names the surfaces we will test.
Can we update the skill ourselves?
Yes. The handover includes the editable source and a change process. We identify the procedure owner and keep test examples so changes to policy or templates can be checked before the updated skill is shared.
Share one recurring task, its approved instructions and an example result. We will identify the skill’s inputs, dependencies and review checkpoints.

Package a procedure your team already trusts.
