Joomla to WordPress migration

Rebuild your Joomla content site in WordPress with its article structure, permissions, and legacy links accounted for. Norml maps the agreed articles and media, recreates the required layouts, and reviews the extensions behind important features. The new editing workflow is checked with the people who will use it before the site changes over.

What the migration covers

A Joomla article import covers only part of a site. Menus, modules, extension-owned records, and access rules need an explicit place in the WordPress build.

Articles, categories and media

We map article fields, authors, categories, tags, dates, and publication states into the agreed WordPress structure. Media and download links are checked alongside the text. Representative imports include long articles, embedded content, and records with custom fields so formatting problems are visible early.

Menus, modules and layouts

Joomla menus and modules can determine how visitors reach or view the same content. We inventory those routes and rebuild the required navigation and page templates. The WordPress editor receives suitable content fields and reusable sections rather than a collection of static screenshots.

Extension-owned features

Forms, directories, events, galleries, or membership tools may store records outside the article system. We identify each required extension and its data source, then agree a WordPress replacement or external integration. Its record transfer and behavior are verified separately from the main article import.

Permissions and legacy links

Joomla distinguishes viewing access from permission to perform actions. We map the roles your team needs and test restricted pages and editing rights. The URL inventory includes menu-based and older article paths so redirects cover how visitors and search engines reach the content.

What we need before the move

Version, extensions and backups

Provide the Joomla version, installed extension list, authorized hosting access, domain ownership, and a restorable source backup. We need examples of private content and custom records, plus a content owner who can confirm the required categories and menus.

Account and access boundaries

Existing password compatibility cannot be assumed across systems. We agree the destination sign-in process and the permissions that must be preserved. Unsupported extension functionality is scoped explicitly before records or restricted content are published.

How we prepare the move

  1. Map the site model

Identify article types, categories, menu routes, custom fields, modules, and extension tables. Agree the WordPress equivalents and a retained-content inventory.

  2. Trial the import and permissions

Transfer a sample with media and linked records. Review editor tasks and test both allowed and denied access for the roles included in scope.

  3. Reconcile and launch

Compare transferred records with the approved inventory, test forms and navigation, and check redirects. Apply final content changes before the domain switch, then verify public pages and account behavior again.

Questions about the migration

What happens to Joomla extensions?
Each required feature gets a replacement and data-transfer decision. An article importer cannot prove that a directory, booking tool, or membership extension has moved. We inspect its records and agree the functionality the WordPress site needs.
Can categories and old links be preserved?
We can map categories into the destination structure and prepare redirects for changed addresses. Joomla may expose content through several menu paths, so the redirect inventory is built around the site’s URLs as well as its article records.
Will user permissions stay identical?
We define the required viewing and editing rights, then test them in WordPress. The permission models differ. Any necessary change is documented before access is enabled on the destination site.
Share your current website, the features you rely on, and what needs to change. We will review the WordPress requirements and identify the content, rebuild work, and launch checks your move needs.
