Move a WordPress website to Squarespace without losing the parts that already work

Norml applies its website rebuild, content-system, integration, and QA experience to WordPress-to-Squarespace migrations. We inventory the current site, identify the content and connected services that need to remain, recreate the approved pages in Squarespace, and test the result before launch. The work starts with the existing website rather than a generic template, so its useful content, navigation, forms, booking paths, and search-sensitive page details are accounted for during the move.

What we do

Norml handles WordPress-to-Squarespace rebuilds, including page recreation, editable content, third-party embeds, redirects, responsive QA, and launch checks.

What a WordPress-to-Squarespace migration covers

The first step is separating what Squarespace can reproduce directly from what depends on WordPress code, plugins, or an external service. That inventory determines the rebuild and testing plan.

Current-site inventory

We map the pages, navigation, reusable content, forms, embeds, tracking, metadata, and external services on the WordPress site. Custom code and plugin-dependent features are identified before the Squarespace build begins.

Squarespace page rebuild

We recreate the approved page structure and visual system in Squarespace, using native editing controls where they fit. Repeated information is organized so routine changes do not require editing the same detail across several pages.

External service continuity

Booking, payment, review, form, and analytics services are checked individually. Existing journeys are preserved through supported embeds or links where possible. Anything that needs a compatible replacement is identified before launch.

Responsive and functional testing

The rebuilt site is reviewed at phone and desktop sizes. Navigation, forms, embedded tools, buttons, content, and key customer journeys are tested on the temporary site before the domain changes.

Redirects and launch

We prepare redirects for changed URLs, connect the production domain, confirm analytics and metadata, and repeat the functional checks on the live Squarespace site.

What we need before the rebuild

WordPress access

Administrator access to the existing site so we can inspect its pages, media, plugins, custom code, metadata, and current URL structure.

Squarespace access

Collaborator access to the Squarespace site or account where the approved rebuild will live.

Connected-service details

A list of booking, payment, review, form, analytics, and other external services, with the appropriate access or embed details for each one.

Current brand material

Logo files, fonts, colors, images, and any design references that should carry into the rebuilt site.

How the migration runs

  1. Audit the current website

We document the pages, content, design patterns, URLs, integrations, and custom behavior that need to be reproduced or reconsidered.

  2. Confirm the migration map

Each important feature is assigned a Squarespace-native approach, a supported external embed, or a clearly identified replacement. The page list and launch requirements are agreed before the rebuild proceeds.

  3. Rebuild on a temporary site

We create the approved pages in Squarespace and configure the editable content, navigation, forms, metadata, and external services without changing the live WordPress site.

  4. Test the complete customer journey

The temporary site is checked on phone and desktop, including forms, embedded services, outbound journeys, navigation, and the content controls used for routine updates.

  5. Launch and verify

We connect the domain, apply redirects, confirm analytics and metadata, and test the live site again after DNS and SSL are active.

Let's chat

“I've spent 10 years working across development and marketing. I started as a developer, but design, SEO and advertising were already part of the job. That taught me to treat a website as one system: the business, the content, the design and the code have to work together. At Norml, I lead the architecture behind our work and stay involved wherever strategy, design, development and search meet.”

Questions

Can every WordPress feature be recreated in Squarespace?
Not always in the same way. Standard pages, navigation, forms, editable content, and many third-party embeds can usually be rebuilt directly. Custom PHP and plugin-specific behavior need to be mapped to Squarespace features, supported embeds, or a compatible external service during the audit.
Can the rebuilt site be reviewed before launch?
Yes. The Squarespace version is built and tested away from the production domain, so the existing WordPress site can remain live during review.
What happens to existing page URLs?
We preserve URLs where the new structure allows it and prepare redirects for approved changes. Redirects are checked after launch so visitors and search engines reach the intended pages.
Will routine content be easier to update?
That is part of the migration plan. Content that changes regularly is identified during the audit and placed in the simplest suitable Squarespace editing structure, within the platform's available controls.
Can external booking or payment services remain in place?
They can remain when the service provides a Squarespace-compatible embed or linking method. We test the actual customer journey on the temporary site and again after launch rather than assuming an embed is sufficient.
A current-site audit shows which pages can move directly, which integrations need testing, and which WordPress-specific features need a different approach in Squarespace.
